My Project Brief

Brief

To create a book using collected stories and artifacts from and of people's account's about their attachment's to people, place's and object's during their lifetimes.

My book will include the use of Photographs, Illustrations and artifacts collected from my research and story collection. I will try and let each story tell its own story and get the same feeling the narrator experienced through the visual treatment.

The stories that I choose would be anecdotes, moments and incidents which define a person's attachment with a person, place or object at a particular time in their life.

Scenario

Nikhil is seen pacing up and down looking like he was in deep thought. He had already been waiting for an hour.

Anu had never been so late. She didnt even have a phone he could call her on.

Thoughts began creeping into Nikhil's mind-

"Why was she so late?
Had she forgotten about the date?
Had she gotten stuck in traffic?
Why?"

Nikhil's mind began racing to every possible explanation for this delay while he continued pacing at an ever increasing rate.

His thoughts went from innocent impediments to disastrous ones.

"Maybe she's forgotten about me.......
Maybe she's trying to tell me something.......
Maybe she's going to break our relationship......."

Nikhil stops pacing suddenly and a frown appears on his otherwise calm face.

Nikhil's thoughts get darker and he gets angry and starts brooding about her not being there.

"I knew she wasn't worth it.....
she doesn't deserve me......
she is always nagging me anyway...."

His tirade stops when the reality of it sets in.....she still was not there.

He stops pacing again and his frown turns into a look of extreme fear.

Nikhil starts to feel the guilt of his thoughts and actually thought about the loss of Anu.

"I hope nothings happened to her.....
there is a whole lot of traffic today......
i hope she hasnt been kidnapped..!....
oh god please protect her!"

Suddenly from behind, two feminine arms take hold of Nikhil's torso in a tight grasp and all of Nikhil's stress dissolved in that embrace.

She whispers into his ear " I'm sorry".

I have always been interested by how people in relationships behave. Wether it be a platonic one, a sexual one or even a relationship with an inanimate object.

This interest has led me to think in certain ways which define me and the others around me. The different relationships are borne out of a basic need for a person to love something or someone and form some kind of an attachment.

The book aims to reflect a part of you at some point of time in your life. The time it is set in would vary. Incidents from child-hood to old age. The fact that the characters vary and are not constant gives me the chance to explore stereotypes in our society giving the project a wider audience base.

My visual narrative will include dramatized stories from real accounts told by people and my own observations and accounts on this subject.

Need

My interest in this project is to explore the factor of love in relationships. My life has been full of new places and new people due to the traveling nature of my father's occupation. I have had to make new relationships with new people and places. The ideals of attachment to me seem to get lost in the act of making a new relationship out of the need to quickly adapt to a new place and its people.

This exploration of attachment will help me better understand how people from different places make relationships and how they define their love and more importantly how they express it.

Ladies and Gentleman,

Welcome to The Other Side.

This blog shall be documenting my diploma project on humans and the attachments they share with people, places and objects.

I request the humans to contribute.
To help my quest in exploring these relationships

Thank you
